Do We Feel Satisfaction From Getting What We Desire,…
Do We Feel Satisfaction From Getting What We Desire, Or in the Longing For it?
And Do We Lose the Longing As We Get Older?
This week’s episode was inspired by a conversation with a dear friend as we were planning something special to do together, and it led me to some questions…
Is it the longing for what we desire that gives us satisfaction, or in getting it?
Do we lose the art of longing as we get older? If so, do we miss it?
What do you do when your partner is no longer interested in longing to do things, and you are?
Should we hope that we don’t actually get what we desire so that we don’t lose that sense of longing?
I’m longing to share my thoughts with you on all of this and I hope you’ll join me and share with others if you think it would resonate.
Not be missed take-ways…
—There is a certain reward in the longing. We all need something to look forward to. Just the thought of something fun ahead can make you feel better.
—And when it finally does happen, it’s the icing on the cake that we finally get to eat and savor and devour!
—We can’t just give up and give in! We need to keep trying new things, meeting new people, and taking risks. We need to continue to do things that challenge us, excite us, scare us, and take us outside of our comfort zones.
—If someone is not capable of showing you love the way you need and want it, or willing to make an effort for you and the relationship…it’s not too late to put yourself first, even if it means making scary changes. You are not too old!!!!
—Dare to be greedy. Find as many things as you can to look forward to and make them happen.
—Someday, is not on the calendar.
—What are you waiting for?
And your mission that I hope you’ll choose to accept…
What is something you have said at least once, “Someday, I’m going to do that.” Or, “I wish I could _______, I’d really love to_______. Fill in those blanks and put whatever it is on the calendar!
Plan it. Revel in the longing for it to happen and enjoy every moment. Oh and please share with me so I can share what listeners are doing!!
And at the risk of sounding like a broken record: You’re not too old!
Thank you so much for listening! And until the next time, live passionately, vulnerably, and keep loving later life!
